Report
Whenever you submit a report, it automatically includes your location (based on your login details) and the time when the report was submitted. All of the reports are saved in a database which is monitored at the Incident Control Centre in Barrow. Report types are as follows:
Dropout: Enter the name and tag number of a walker who has started the walk and has a recorded start time in the timing system, but is unable to complete. If a walker drops out, you must make sure that they are looked after, particularly if they are a child. Enter all relevant information in the Dropout report comments box, including whether the walker was injured, how they were taken away, who was looking after them, and where they were going to. This information may be critical if a walker subsequently goes missing or takes seriously ill, and may be used by the emergency services.
No show: Enter the name and tag number of a walker who has failed to reach a checkpoint without explanation. Include a comment describing what you know about the situation. If the walker subsequently appears, please fill in a Miscellaneous report.
Replacement 888 tag: Enter the name and original tag number of a walker who has been issued with a new tag, and also enter the new tag number. Where possible, an 888 tag should be issued. Include a comment stating why the tag was replaced, such as original tag lost or faulty.
Name change: Enter the name and tag number of a walker whose name is incorrect in the database, and also enter the new name. Include a comment describing why the name was changed. This option should NOT be used to change the registered walker to a different walker. If the person walking is not the person who registered, then we will not have their contact details and consents, and they should be issued an 888 tag.
Checkpoint closed: Do this when your checkpoint officially closes, but before you shut down the laptops!! Enter the name and tag number of the last walker to swipe at the checkpoint who continues on towards the next checkpoint. Include a comment stating if anyone waiting at the checkpoint needs transport or other help. Please ALSO contact the ICC by phone or radio if anyone needs urgent help.
Lost and found: Use this form to describe something that has been either lost or found. Describe the item, and include any further information that might help to identify the item or enable us to contact the owner, for example, the name of the owner and a contact phone number.
Miscellaneous: If no other options are suitable, write a miscellaneous report. Include walker name and tag number if applicable. For example, if a walker is injured and continuing to walk. If you made a mistake in a previous report, write a miscellaneous report explaining what correction is required.
Route cutoff times
Walkers who reach any of the following locations after the designated times will be stopped at that point, for their own protection, and to safeguard the volunteer marshals further down the route. This is non-negotiable. Transport will be provided to the finish.
Coniston CP3: 1pm
Red Lion Inn Lowick Info: 4pm
Rake Cross Roads CP6: 6pm
Marton CP7: 7pm
Dalton CP8: 8pm
Phone
The Incident Control Centre (0777 888 4020) should be your first choice when seeking help relating to the walk. Other mobile phone numbers are provided if you need specific local support. However, mobile phone coverage in the Lake District is sporadic, so you also have the option of contacting Committee members and other checkpoints via radio.
